If you have any desire to heal, achieve dreams, or simply have a better quality of life, then change is required.
Change is possible. Change is doable. Change can even be likely, but even so, why does it so often feel impossible or improbable?
There is a seductiveness to routine, predictability, and monotony. You might feel comfort with what you know, and fear, even despise, what you don’t. Change is the epitome of “what you don’t know” because it is yet to be. Even when every cell in your body and every corner of your spirit screams out with the need for change, you sit back and recline into old and familiar beliefs and practices. Settling into the status quo, and the frustration and pain that comes with it, like nestling into your favorite chair or spot on the bed.
Consciously or not, you can become addicted, not to your pain, but the dependability of its presence. In your present state, you often become well practiced at managing your unhealed pain and your as-of-yet unrealized dreams. Change is scary because new pain can come with it, pain you don’t know how to manage.
But change you must. If you have any desire to heal, achieve dreams, or simply have a better quality of life, then change is required. In my experience, the very first ingredient towards manifesting the life you deserve is the belief that life can be different, you can be better, and it is within your capabilities to reach such a place in your life. You do a disservice to yourself by holding on to the beliefs and practices (and they are practices) that change is scary, change is impossible, and most poisonous of all: that you are not deserving of change.
So how do you acquire or cultivate this belief and practice? Quite simply, it must begin with your conscious choice to believe that change is possible, and that you are deserving of it. It’s okay if that belief feels a little shaky in the beginning. The point is that you are consciously deciding to invest your energy into that belief. You set the intention that change is not only going to come, but that you welcome it.
Now when setting that intention, you must have a clear vision of the change you desire. Investing your energy into the belief that not only change is possible, but that a particular change is doable sets into motion all your psychological, emotional, and spiritual resources towards the determined pursuit of that change.
How, then, can we go from a shaky belief in change to a firm one? There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. For some it is through daily meditation and recitation of an affirming mantra. For others it is through prayer and the practice of surrender, and still others, it is a methodical appreciation for all of the ways you have already changed your life for the better.
For me, music is what helps fortify my mind, body, and spirit when I am in pursuit of a change. I find music to be the energy of possibility. It lifts my thoughts and spirits to new heights. It helps me believe in a deep place that change is not only possible but is probable. So, if you are like me, and music is the reinforcement you need, then for your pleasure, and mine, I have curated a Spotify Playlist of songs that have helped me to believe change is, in fact, possible.
So, start now, this very moment, to believe change is within your grasp. I believe in you, and so does the Universe.
